In our beginnings we didn\u2019t own an olive grove. For job reasons we lived in cities and were closely connected for many years with the places Poulithra and Leonidio, their people and the landscape around them.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Through both our families we had always had a connection to different rural areas of Greece. Dimitris in his youth knew goat cheese and yoghurt, Spanakopitta, wine, white beans, walnuts and apples from his grandmother\u2019s own production. And I always heard about the citrus fruit and fig trees in my grandparents\u2019 garden.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

At some point this fervent wish emerged: We wanted to occupy ourselves with olive trees then we would spend more time outdoors and produce our own olive oil. However it took some years before we could realize this plan.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Now we cultivate our two olive groves with about 250 trees in a sustainable way and learn, try and learn always more new things there are to discover. Dimitris has done a training course as an olive oil sommelier.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Our first few harvest results were relatively modest in quantity, but we were truly happy with the taste and the colour of our oil and our families and friends shared our enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Our predominant olive varieties are principally \u201eLadoelia\u201c (so called Oil-olive), that is at home in the provinces of Argolida and Arcadia. Then we have also some \u201cManaki\u201d, \u201cKariolia\u201d and \u201cAghouromana\u201d for completing its mild and wonderfully fruity bouquet. The more we tended to our trees, the more the yield over the years increased. Eventually we arrived at the conclusion that we would have to sell the oil, we couldn\u2019t use up ourselves.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The trees in our olive groves are between sixty and a hundred years old. In Poulithra they live in good neighbourhood with about twenty-five carob trees that were strategically placed all across the lot in the traditional way. The carob beans, which mature in late August to early September, are so sweet that they should attract the olive fruit fly which is a serious pest for the olives. Nevertheless we control it mostly with biological traps.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The oil mill LIVELIA in Astros has become our reliable partner for the cold extraction and the bottling process, after we had realized how important this is for the quality of the oil and the preservation of its precious substances such as polyphenoles.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Every year we have the quality checked by a specialized laboratory in Athens.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

2025 has been a very good harvest for us and we could continue the Extra Virgin level of quality and founded our brand CEDRUS\u00b2<\/strong> .
